Cubacel is a division of ETECSA (Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A) offering mobile services.
Where to buy
You can check the list of available stores and places offering Cubacel services here. The activation fee for prepaid cell phone service is 30 CUC / 30$. Besides the activation fee, you must pay at least 10 CUC / 10$ for the initial charge.
Incoming and outgoing Cubacel phone calls are being paid in Cuban Convertible Pesos (CUC) and that makes receiving and making calls rather expensive for Cubans and for tourists. The price of received or made call in Cuba is currently priced at 0.45 CUC / minute (from 7:00 am to 10:59 pm) which is actually equal to 0.45$ per minute and 0.10 CUC / 0.10$ per minute (from 11:00 pm to 6:59 am).
How to top up
You can purchase Cubacel prepaid top-ups from ETECSA stores, mobile sales offices, multiservice centers, retailers all across Cuba and specialty mobile shops. Cubacel prepaid mobile refills are sold with prepaid top-up face-value equal to 12$, 20$, 30$, 40$, and 50$. Once bought, the Cubacel airtime recharge will be converted to an equivalent amount in the national currency of Cuba.
