Israel is a small country, which has highly developed cellular network. The network covers almost all of the country, except desert regions.

Cellular Operators

Orange

Orange Israel voice network uses GSM 900/1800 frequency and UMTS technology. Orange Israel 3G data network uses HSPDA technology and covers over 90% of the country. Most GSM 3G devices can be used on the network, among them iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Android smartphones, different cellular modems etc.

Pelephone

The network started as AMPS/NAMPS in the 800/850 MHz band. In the mid-to-late 1990s it converted to IS-95 CDMA and later added CDMA2000/EV-DO capabilities as well. A UMTS network in the 850/2100 MHz bands was launched in early 2009.

Prepaid plans

ORANGE Prepaid plan called BigTalk. you can buy the SIM directly in the company for 99 NIS (28$) it includes 15NIS (4$) of talk time. Buy them much cheaper in kiosks or GSMshops, most of which are concentrated in Tel Aviv near the central bus station. Top Ups you can buy online or scratch cards in kiosks.

Lowest topup option is 50 NIS (14$) which includes 43 NIS talktime (locals calls 1.13 NIS/min).

Two visitors who want to keep in touch the best option is a bonus top-up for 130 NIS (40$) includes 900 minutes for 30 day period (of which 600 minutes can be used only on same network).
